How Writing Changed my Life!
Writing has been a transformative force in my life. As a child, I dreamed of becoming a published author, but self-doubt and discouragement dimmed that vision. Throughout my life, I sought acceptance and fulfillment, striving for success but always feeling that something was missing.
In 2019 a family tragedy stirred me to revisit my dream. Today, I am a featured author in the book titled, Women Who Empower (2020), and a co-author in Leading with Legacy (2022), where I share my journey on the “Road to Hope.”
It wasn’t until I embraced my unique gifts and genius that I discovered true fulfillment, gratitude, and abundance. Now, I am dedicated to helping others access their core genius and live their life’s purpose, just as I have. Together, we can embrace our authentic selves and create the life we’ve always dreamed of.

Initially my approach was to find a book that had the answer. I was expecting to have method (knowledge) ladled out like instant chicken soup . While meditating, it occurred to me that the assignment is more about thinking than about method, so that’s what I wrote in my paper—my paper on method was on the method I used to write it…
…One evening as I was getting ready for class, I was looking in the mirror and without any warning, I dropped to my knees on the cold tiled floor, sobbing uncontrollably… I had uncovered the festering wound buried deep in my soul. I found the root cause of all my pain and suffering growing up. I discovered the cause of the distance between my relationships with my mother, my daughters, my sister, and brother. What’s more, I located the source of most of the bickering and destructive conflict going on in the workplace. Hour upon hour of research, days where I wanted to tear my hair out because I didn’t believe I was good enough or smart enough to figure things out. That evening, while down on the floor pouring my heart out, two words were pounding in rhythm to my heartbeat: Double bind, double bind, double bind…

Excerpt from Laurel’s Story…
Only a handful of people in my life know about what happened that fateful day in 2019, Kate being one of them when I shared some of the details of my story with her in August 2020. Today, while still in the middle of writing this piece, I am convinced that without Kate crossing my path at exactly the right time, I would not be here with you, living out my life purpose. I believe with my whole heart that God (call it Source, higher power, Spirit, the universe, whatever you choose) moved all the pieces in the universe in order for me to do the work he has called me to do. Kate is the vehicle; you the reader are here by divine plan.

I was fortunate to have had Laurel Joakimides as a planner and facilitator to help create a strategic vision through her Generative Leadership training for the Ross Ragland Theater Board of Directors when I was Executive Director. She started the process with helping each individual begin shaping a personal vision for themselves and the Theater.
